Savannah Re – The Relationtape (Album)

The Relationtape

I first became acquainted with the beautifully talented Savannah Re/her music through a mutual friend, who also happens to be her manager. The Relationtape represents the debut release from the talented songstress, while it set out to encompass all the ups and downs of a relationship. Despite the potential for a misinterpretation of the mixtape being released for Valentines Day, Savannah released it on Feb 1st as a birthday present to herself. I’m extremely proud of her for releasing this as it’s a huge accomplishment in her young career and as you will notice when listening through, she definitely has that talent to make it as far as she wants.

Adam Bomb – Wasted Talent (Album)

Wasted Talent

Adam Bomb from Toronto’s own Freedom Writers drops the online version of his album Wasted Talent that dropped last year. Ever since I heard You Wouldn’t Understand I was wondering who exactly the artist was, and even though I had heard Adam Bomb’s work and seen him perform as part of the Freedom Writers I never put the two of them together. I’m glad I can finally do that as he’s a solid artist who’s garnered the respect of Toronto’s Hip-Hop crowd. Note, this is a pay whatever you can album so support the music.

9th Wonder – Black American Gangster (Mixtape)

Black American Gangster Front

Soulful Hip-Hop producer 9th Wonder has been known to drop the occasional mixtape of a complete album remixed front to back. The most well received example of this is his mixtape of Nas’ God’s Son, named God’s Stepson. 9th’s latest takes the 2007 Jay-Z album American Gangster, and remixes it with 9th’s soulful sound giving the album a whole new vibe. Colin Munroe – Unsung Hero (Mixtape)

It’s been a while since the Unsung Hero has dropped a full project. While keeping with what got him to where he is in the first place, the alternative artists sticks with those who embraced him in the beginning, the hip-hop community. With features like Kendrick Lamar, Ab-soul, Pusha T & RZA the mixtape is bursting with hip-hop talent and sounds, while still keeping true to Colin’s vocals. The mixtape shines from front to back, and has basically been on repeat for the past couple of days.

Big Sean – Detroit (Mixtape)

I purposely held off on posting the video for RWT because I knew Detroit was dropping later today and I wanted to put the two together in a single post. In my opinion, Big Sean’s mixtapes are better than his album Finally Famous, so I’m quite interested to see how Detroit will turn out since it’s the first mixtape since his debut album. Will it follow in the direction his album took him, or will he go back to being solid on mixtapes?

Talib Kweli & Z-Trip – Attack The Block!!! (Mixtape)

Talib Kweli’s latest mixtape came out as a bit of a surprise the other day. Featuring the likes of young bucks and O.G.s of the hip-hop game, Talib tries to make everyone who is a hip-hop fan happy while keeping the traditional hip-hop sound. I’m also including in the sidebar the pics I took from Talib’s concert in Toronto from a few months back that only just saw the light of day. The concert was spectacular as Talib basically put on a greatest hits performance for 1.5 hrs.

Slaughterhouse – On The House (Mixtape)

After a short delay, the Slaughterhouse machine is back with their mixtape promoting their upcoming album Welcome To: Our House. As you can expect the mixtape is loaded front to back with verses by Joell, Royce, Joe and Crooked that go hard, including Truth Or Truth Pt. 1.
