It’s July 4th down in the US, a day for celebrating the US’ independence, but for hip-hop it’s a day of celebrating Childish Gambino‘s latest mixtape release. Stepping away (somewhat) from the softer, more personal sound of Camp, Donald mixes things up and put together a mixtape more towards “bangers” that would do well in a concert setting, while still throwing in a couple of softer tracks so that he doesn’t alienate his fans. With collabs from hip-hop greats Bun B and Ghostface, to fresh up-and-comers like ScHoolboyQ and Danny Brown, to the unexpected collabs of Beck and Tina Fey, Donald really mixes things up with R O Y A L T Y and starts to take fans on a new journey of his sound.
